KBShimmer Summer 2016 Collection (Partial) ~ Swatch and Review

The new KBShimmer releases are always a big deal in the nail community. KBShimmer is known to offer quality polish at reasonable prices, and these new shades from the Summer 2016 release are no different. Let's take a look!

Good Reef!
Good Reef! is described as a stunning light peachy coral color with blue shimmer that pops in certain lights. I was so excited to see this color. This is what I had hoped for in Orly Trendy, which completely missed the mark. But Good Reef! has a smooth easy to use formula. A little streaky on the first coat, but 3 coats smooths it out perfectly. Shown here is 3 coats with glossy top coat. Check out that blue shimmer!

Along for the Tide
Along for the Tide is described as an inky blue polish that is jam packed with shimmery micro flecks that shift from pink to violet and blue to purple. A linear holo finish pops in bright light. Cobalt blue is such a popular color and this one is stunning. It's like flakies swimming in a deep ocean, but when you step outside the holo makes you gasp! My swatches show 2 coats with glossy top coat.

That's Nude to Me
That's Nude to Me is described as a pink toned nude with a subtle linear holo and a soft platinum shimmer for the perfect summer neutral. I love neutral holos and this is undoubtedly the perfect rosy holo for summer. I used 3 coats for my swatches, but you could probably get by on 2 coats. Glossy top coat.

Playing with the Buoys
Playing with the Buoys is described as a soft, green mint with blue undertones.  A smooth creamy color that covers perfectly in 2 coats. Perfect for summertime! 2 coats with glossy top coat.

I have never been disappointed with any KBShimmer polish, and that holds true with these as well. All beautiful shades, ranging from simple to complex, with truly perfected formulas.

The summer collection consists of a total of 12 new shades, which will be releasing June 1. They will retail for $9.25 each. Available at,,, and

MDJ Creations Squared Away Collection ~ Swatch and Review

Good Morning my friends! I have a new fun trio by MDJ Creations to show you. I have yet to come across one of Melissa's polishes that I don't love, which might be a clue as to this trio as well. Check it out. :)

MDJ Creations Squared Away
Squared Away features various colors of square shaped glitter in a clear base with microglitter and holographic colors. Shown here is one coat over a soft blue shimmer polish.

MDJ Creations Square Dance
Square Dance features all square shaped glitter in a beautiful collage of holographic colors & micro glitter in a cool toned purple crelly base, w/cool violet shimmer. Smooth easy formula, 2 thin coats with glossy top coat.

MDJ Creations The Square Root of Purple
The Square Root of Purple a pastel purple leaning lilac glitter polish with a smooth crelly base.  It has the same glitter composition as Squared Away. Shown here in 2 smooth easy coats with glossy top coat.

I truly love each of these polishes. Purple, crellies, square glitters, smooth formulas... what's not to love? I have to admit that The Square Root of Purple is my favorite though. I love the soft smooth base color filled with the perfect amount of glitter.

These are all currently available, and retail $4.50 for the 5ml mini size or $9.75 for the 15ml full size.

Nail Art ~ Lady Queen Water Decals and Turtle Tootsie Innocence

I love water decals. I really do. They are such a fun simple way to really add an extra touch to any mani. Today I have these blue and purple pastel decals from Lady Queen. They actually have snowflakes on them, which I didn't notice until I was getting ready to do this mani, and it's certainly not snowflake weather at least not here in the south. I felt like these worked for spring time too though as I was able to easily avoid any snowflakes. ❄️

For me one of the fun parts of water decals is finding the perfect polish to pair them with. I browsed through a dozen pastel blues and purples but kept deciding they were either too blue or too purple. So I decided to go ahead and apply the decals and then go back to find the perfect shade. It was right then that I noticed Turtle Tootsie Innocence sitting on top of one of my helmers. Hello perfect polish! A soft blue holo with a strong purple shimmer. I'm pretty sure these were made for each other.

For this mani I started with 2 coats of white on my ring and middle finger for underneath the water decals. Then I painted 3 thin coats of Turtle Tootsie Polish Innocence on my index and little finger. After my polish was completely dry I cut out 2 sections of the decal sheet for the accent nails. I let each piece soak in room temperature water for about 10-15 seconds. I gently slid the decal off the paper backing and adhered to my nail. I waited a few seconds for the water to evaporate off the decals (I prefer this to patting them dry) and then applied a layer of my favorite glossy top coat.

As always, I found the application to be quick and easy. I do feel like they are a bit more washed out than the original image though. Or is that just me? Either way I like how this mani turned out, and I was so glad for the reason to get to wear Turtle Tootsie Innocence.

If you like these water decals they are available here. Don't forget to use my code RQLC15 for 15% off your order!
