Above the Curve

Above the Curve ~ Swatch and Review

Today I have some polish from Above the Curve Nail Lacquer to show you. Above the Curve is best known for a good quality product at a very reasonable price, and $1.00 from each full size bottle purchased is donated to Shriners Hospitals for Children. I greatly admire brands that regularly give back to society. I find that they are really looking at the bigger picture, and want to make a difference.

The colors I chose to swatch and review are You Spring me Joy, Donna, It’s Electric, Husbands just don’t understand, and Gryffindor.
You Spring me Joy!
You Spring me Joy is a beautiful medium creme with a light scattered holo. The formula was easy to work with. The swatches below are 2 coats with OTD top coat.

Donna
Donna is a bright orange holo designed after Donna Nobles hair on Doctor Who. I love orange polish, and even fiery orange polish so this one was a winner for me. The formula was smooth and easy to work with. The pictures below are 2 coats with HK Girl top coat.

It’s Electric!
It’s Electric is a fun bright violet purple with neon blue microglitters throughout. The formula on this one was also smooth and creamy with no problems. The swatches below are 3 coats with OTD top coat.

Husbands just don’t Understand
Husbands just don’t understand is a highly pigmented teal with a scattered holo finish. Admittedly I originally chose this one for the name, but now I love it for so many more reasons! While I didn’t have any staining issue that’s always a possibility with highly pigmented teals and blues, so I would double up your base coat just to be safe. Swatches below are 2 coats with HK Girl top coat.

Gryffindor
Gryffindor is a deep wine grape purple full of holo and gold glitter flakes. The swatches below are 2 coats with HK Girl top coat, in full sun.

My favorites of these are Donna, and Husbands just don’t understand. My least favorite was Gryffindor, although it’s absolutely gorgeous outside that unfortunately did not hold true for inside. I found the color to be pretty blah inside, and I’m very anti-texture so the semi rough finish on this one bothered me after a bit. Maybe a couple coats of Seche Vite would help this though.

Above the Curve can be purchased on their website at http://abovethecurve.bigcartel.com.

Follow them on social media too for all the latest on new releases.

Remember they donate $1.00 from every full size polish sold to Shriners Hospitals for Children, specifically for Scoliosis patients and research. I personally love supporting small businesses who give back to the community, it warms your heart in a way that buying something from a large nationwide chain just can’t do.

Overall Above the Curve is a high quality, well respected indie brand with very reasonable prices. If you haven’t tried them yet I recommend doing so!

Until next time, Stay Polished!
