China Glaze Rebel Collection ~ Fall 2016

Ahh it’s Monday. I never feel ready to face the week. But there is nothing like 12 beautiful polishes to perk up your day! The China Glaze Rebel Collection looks into the never ending trend of the 1990’s. The time of Nirvana, heroin chic, supermodels, club kids, Spice Girls and Clueless. Those were some good times!

I’m going to spoil the surprise for you.. but China Glaze knocked the ball well out of the park with this collection and I have lot’s of swatches to show you today. Let’s take a look…

China Glaze Rebel Collection

China Glaze Heroine Chic
Heroine Chic is described by China Glaze as ‘Mysterious. Rebellious. Darkly Seductive. One coat of sultry chocolate olive will leave you addicted.’ It also has these awesome little pink/red microglitters that give it a pink shimmer in certain lights. A very complex beautiful shade! My swatches show 2 coats plus glossy top coat.

China Glaze Ya’ll Red-y for This?
Ya’ll Red-y for This? is described by China Glaze as ‘Hot-tempered orange-red shimmer may contain explicit content.’ I can’t say this one excited me much, but I’m not a huge red shimmer fan. If you are you will likely love it. Formula was nice and smooth, just 2 coats with glossy top coat.

China Glaze Dope Taupe
Dope Taupe is described by China Glaze as ‘Cool dude almond taupe always keeps it fresh to def.’ Self professed neutral lover here, and this is most definitely a neutral to love. A beautiful shade with a formula to match, reaches opacity in a single coat. My swatches show 2 coats with glossy top coat.

China Glaze Blue-ya!
Blue-ya! is described by China Glaze as ‘Witty. Shimmery. Charming. This sapphire blue is da bomb!’ and I have to say I agree 100%! A deep blue jelly with blue microflakes and a subtle green shimmer. It did stain my cuticles a little so be sure to wear a good base coat. A personal favorite for sure! 2 coats with glossy top coat.

China Glaze Purple Fiction
Purple Fiction is described by China Glaze as ‘Queen of street style metallic plum reigns on!’ A really pretty purple shimmer. Not much more I can say about this, but if you love purple you need it. 2 coats plus glossy top coat.

China Glaze Fresh Prince-ss
Fresh Prince-ss is described by China Glaze as ‘All hail the cool kid on the block. This pale pink knows how to keep it chic in the gritty streets.’ Okay it’s a pale pink. You’ve seen them before. What you can’t see though is the really nice formula. These shades are almost always problematic. Fresh Prince-ss starts out a bit streaky on the first coat but the second coat smooths and evens out perfectly. That’s a really nice formula you ask? Yes, for these soft pinks it most certainly is. Topped with glossy top coat.

China Glaze Teen Spirit
Teen Spirit is described by China Glaze as ‘Voted Most Popular Polish. This gorgeous shimmery grape is most definitely too cool for high school.’ This is basically the purple sister to Blue-ya! but the microflakes don’t stand out quite as well. Still a very pretty unique shade. 2 coats with glossy top coat.

China Glaze Jagged Little Teal
Jagged Little Teal is described by China Glaze as ‘Isn’t it ironic? Vamp deep teal may be a little rough around the edges, but it sure is easy on the eyes.’ This is such an awesome color. Teal is one of those shades that has so much variation. I haven’t gone digging through my teal drawers to compare but I feel like this is unique to my collection. And it has a very shiney natural finish as well!

China Glaze Combat Blue-ts
Combat Blue-ts is described by China Glaze as ‘Bad to the bone. We advise you not to step to this tough as nine inch nails matte blue.’ Or described by me as Stunning. Gorgeous. Intense. Matte-licious. It was a total surprise too as I try to swatch everything before looking at other swatches or reading any descriptions. I will say since this is a natural matte you will want to work fairly quickly. It dries fast so if you go back over the nail more than a couple swipes of the brush you can start getting some dragging. That’s pretty standard for mattes. It’s all worth it though. It’s so very worth it! 2 coats no top coat, shown below with top coat. A definite favorite!

China Glaze Don’t Mesh with Me
Don’t Mesh with Me is described by China Glaze as ‘Talk to the hand. Don’t let the prettiness fool you, lavender shimmer gives major attitude.’ I layered this over one coat over Combat Blue-ts. This would look amazing over so many shades from this collection though. Don’t Mesh with Me adds great versatility to an already great collection.

China Glaze Pearl Jammin’
Pearl Jammin’ is described by China Glaze as ‘Sit back, relax and enjoy the light show. Rockstar chic gray opal nails it every time!’ So much shimmer! Wether it’s grey or a very soft pale blue, the strong gold/yellow shimmer makes this a totally unique polish. I have nothing else like it. Another personal favorite. This is 2 coats with glossy top coat.

China Glaze Holo at Ya Girl!
Holo at Ya Girl is described by China Glaze as ‘Hitting the streets with your clique? Life of the block party green-gold holographic glitter is right up your alley.’ So while this really works best as a glitter topper I believe it could be opaque in 3-ish coats. Here I have layered it over Pearl Jammin’. Again this could make a great addition to many of the shades in this collection.

My Thoughts: I absolutely love what China Glaze has done with this collection. It has a large variety of shades and finishes, as well as the 2 toppers to add even more variety. With so many indies in the nail polish market now consumers are demanding more of polish. Just straight cremes don’t cut it anymore. Mainstreams have a unique challenge in that they really need to appeal to the hard core polish enthusiasts, as well as the much larger demographic of the ocassional polisher. Some of the brands are facing this challenge head on, while others aren’t. China Glaze most definitely is, and they show it with virtually every collection they release. This is one of those must have collections!
